Baseball 5/9/2022 10:59:53 AM Brook, Hughes Named Baseball Players of the Week LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the baseball weekly honors on Monday, as Cabrini University's Zack Brook earned Player of the Week and Immaculata University's Jason Hughes garnered Pitcher of the Week. Player of the Week: Name: Zack Brook School: Cabrini University Class: Sophomore Position: LF/P Hometown: Mt. Royal, NJ High School: Transfer: Carson-Newman University Brief Outlook of Week: Sophomore Zack Brook helped the Cavaliers to a perfect 4-0 week as he went 10-19 (.526) from the plate, including three homeruns. The DII transfer plated 11, including a game high six in the nightcap of AEC doubleheader versus the Centenary Cyclones and scored seven runs. Brook also put in a perfect innings worth of work on the mound, with no runs, hits, error or walks and one strikeout, in a victory at Centenary. Pitcher of the Week: Name: Jason Hughes School: Immaculata University Class: Sophomore Position: Pitcher Hometown: Warminster, PA High School: William Tennennt Brief Outlook of Week: Sophomore Jason Hughes pitched seven innings of a combined shutout on Thursday to take down Marywood 11-0. Hughes allowed only seven baserunners on the afternoon while striking out 11 Pacers batters overall. Hughes leads the conference with a 1.45 ERA on the year while only allowing six earned runs in conference play this season. Weekly Honor Roll: Bryce Smith (Senior/Marymount): Smith went 5-for-12 at the play in a series win for the Saints over Neumann over the weekend. Knocking a triple and a double in the performances, the senior utility-man notched six RBI to help Marymount grab a pair of wins. Frank Margiotta (Senior/Immaculata): Senior Frank Margiotta put in an impressive performance for the Macs last Thursday, going 3-for-5 at the plate, scoring four runs on the day while tallying a stolen base in the Macs’ 11-0 victory over Marywood. Margiotta currently stands second in the conference in both runs scored and stolen bases, proving to be a threat out of the leadoff position for the Macs. Will Hart (Senior/Neumann): In his final start, Will Hart pitched a complete game, 7.0 innings, and picked up a 7-4 win at Marymount. The senior allowed four runs on two hits and struck out 11. Jonathan Baker (Senior/Cabrini): Senior Jonathan Baker made one appearance on the mound this week as he put in eighth innings worth of work in a 12-5 AEC victory at Centenary. The seniors allowed nine hits and five runs, with four strikeouts en route to the victory over the cyclones. Baker also performed admirably at second base earlier in the week versus Cairn, and went two for three at the plate with two runs scored in the teams 15-8 non conference victory. Drew Mead (Senior/Marymount): Mead pitched a complete-game on the road at Neumann, taking the win that punched the ticket for the Saints into the AEC tournament. Throwing 9.0 strong, the senior lefty allowed just three earned runs with three strikeouts.
