HADDONFIELD, N.J. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women’s Lacrosse weekly award winners on Monday, with Mackenzie Morrissette of Marymount being named Player of the Week and Immaculata’s Elizabeth Mahmud being named Defensive Player of the Week.
Player of the Week: Mackenzie Morrissette
School: Marymount
Class: Sophomore
Position: Attack
Hometown: Cambridge, Md.
High School: Cambridge South Dorchester
Brief Outlook of Week: Morrissette put up an impressive 26 points for the Saints through their three wins last week. The sophomore attack racked up 20 assists and notched six goals to her credit to facilitate the offense. She ended the week averaging 6.67 assists per game.
Defensive Player of the Week: Elizabeth Mahmud
School: Immaculata
Class: Junior
Position: Midfield
Hometown: Downingtown, Pa.
High School: Downingtown West
Brief Outlook of Week: Mahmud had a combined three ground balls, four caused turnovers, 12 draw controls, along with five goals and one assist over two conference games. She had two caused turnovers and two draw controls vs Marymount on Wednesday. She had three ground balls, two caused turnovers, 10 draw controls, and added five goals and one assist in Immaculata's AEC win over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Kira Bradley, Gwynedd Mercy: Bradley continued an impressive senior season in the Red and Gold with 10 points, 17 shots, seven ground balls, five caused turnovers, and eight draw controls on the week.
Kaylee Heath, Marymount: Senior Kaylee Heath made her mark on both ends of the field last week for the Saints to lead to three wins. On defense, Heath impressed with 10 total caused turnovers and seven ground balls, getting possession back at a powerful clip for the Saints. All the while, she added 13 points on 12 goals and an assist.
Kaitlyn Smith, Marywood: Smith scored six goals, 11 assists for 17 points in an Atlantic East split this week. She added 23 draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. To open the week, Smith tallied three goals, eight assists and 13 draw controls in a 25-4 win over Gwynedd Mercy. In a tough 15-12 loss to Neumann, she had a hand in half of the Pacers' goals with three goals and three assists with 10 draw controls. Smith broke the Marywood single-season assists record with her 43rd of the season.
Alena Catka, Neumann: Catka scored nine goals, added four assists and 21 draw controls as Neumann went 2-0 in conference action on the road. In a 17-1 win at Centenary, the junior tallied four goals, four assists and 14 draw controls. She followed with five goals and seven draw controls in a 15-12 win at Marymount.
