LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Softball weekly award winners on Monday, as Immaculata’s Carlee Karcher and Neumann’s Olivia Ammon earn player and pitcher respectively.
Player of the Week:
Name: Carlee Karcher
School: Immaculata
Class: Sophomore
Position: Third Base/DP
Hometown: Maple Shade, N.J.
High School: Campden Catholic
Brief Outlook of Week: Karcher went a combined 9-for-17 (.529) with four runs scored, two doubles, a home run, and six RBIs in five games for the Mighty Macs this week. Karcher went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a home run and three RBIs vs Widener on April 23rd. She went a combined 3-for-6 with two runs scored, and an RBI in the doubleheader with Delaware Valley on April 25th, and helped lead Immaculata to a doubleheader sweep of Gwynedd Mercy on April 27th going a combined 4-for-8 with two RBIs.
Pitcher of the Week:
Name: Olivia Ammon
School: Neumann
Class: Junior
Position: Pitcher
Hometown: Gap, Pa.
High School: Peaqua Valley
Brief Outlook of Week: Ammon went 2-0 in two complete games shutouts the circle, 1-0 in conference action, to wrap up the regular season. In a 4-0 win over Rutgers-Camden, the junior allowed five hits over 7.0 innings. Ammon followed with a 5-0 win over Cabrini and allowed just three hits. She did not walk a batter in either game.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Kaylee Atkins (So., Utility, Marymount): Atkins finished the week with a a.333 batting average 1.111 slugging in four games. The sophomore had two home runs and a double, to go along with five RBIs and two runs scored.
Jaelynn Miller (Jr., Pitcher, Centenary): Miller tallied 22 innings with a 3-1 record. She finished two complete games with 28 strikeouts allowing five runs.
Avery Schwartz (Sr., Third/First Base, Gwynedd Mercy): Schwartz went 5-for-20 (.250) with seven RBI in a 3-3 week that included a win versus Penn State Schuylkill (W, 3-0 on Apr. 22) and a sweep of Albright (W, 6-3/W, 4-3 on Apr. 24). She was two-for-four with a run and an RBI in an AEC doubleheader versus Immaculata
Elizabeth Shire (Sr., Third base, Neumann): Shire batter .385 (5-for-13) as the Knights wrapped up the regular season 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference action. In a 5-0 win over Cabrini, the senior had two hits and scored a run. In the postseason clincher, Shire had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in two in the 11-3 win.
