Marymount Travels to Texas for the NCAA Softball Regional

INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in Marymount history the Saints were named as part of the 64-team NCAA Division III Softball Championship field on Monday during the NCAA.com Selection Show.

Marymount earned one of the 42 AQs, while the other 22 in the field are selected at-large section.

The tournament begins in regional play from Thursday-Saturday, May 15-17 at 16 regional sites. The regionals will use a double-elimination format.

The Saints were the top seed in the Atlantic East tournament, but needed two games to win on the final day to capture the title. Marymount fought from behind in game one and won handedly in game two of the championship games over Immaculata to advance to the NCAA tournament.

Marymount will compete in the East Texas Baptist Regional in Marshall, Texas. Case Western Reserve Regional in Cleveland, Ohio. The Saints will face host and No. 1 East Texas Baptist to start the double elimination Thursday, May 15th at 11am.

Also in the regional are Belhaven and St. Thomas (TX). The tournament continues with three games on Friday and the championship games for the regional on Saturday.

The winners of the 16 regionals will advance to play at one of eight super regional sites. The finals, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan, will begin on Thursday, May 29 and run through Wednesday, June 4 at Inspiration Field in Bloomington, Ill.
