LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Men’s Basketball weekly award winners on Monday, as Gwynedd Mercy’s Aziz Parker and Immaculata’s Tyler Tillery earn Player and Defensive Player of the Week respectively.
Player of the Week:
Name: Aziz Parker
School: Gwynedd Mercy
Class: Senior
Position: Guard
Hometown: Westampton, N.J.
High School: Medford Tech.
Brief Outlook of Week: Parker averaged 20.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 2.0 APG, and 2.0 SPG while leading Gwynedd Mercy to a 2-0 week of league play versus Marywood (W, 99-77) and Neumann (W, 87-79). He first recorded 19 points, seven rebounds, and two assists in a home win over the Pacers, then helped the Griffins defeat the Knights with 22 points, four rebounds, two assists, and four steals. He shot 50.0% (11-of-22) from the floor and hit 61.5% (8-of-13) from three while going a perfect 11-of-11 (100.0%) from the free throw line…all of his free throw came versus Neumann.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Name: Tyler Tillery
School: Immaculata
Class: Graduate Student
Position: Forward
Hometown: Baltimore, Md.
High School: Gerstell Academy
Brief Outlook of Week: Tillery registered a double-double in an Atlantic East Conference win over Cabrini on January 24th, with 15 rebounds including 14 defensive rebounds, and one steal to go along with 15 points and four assists.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Mack Donoven (Jr., Guard, Cabrini): Donoven had a stellar second half performance against Immaculata, scoring 21 of his 23 points after the halftime break. The junior guard added six rebounds, two assists, and a block in the contest. He later turned in a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double to lead the Cavaliers to their win over Centenary. He collected two assists, two steals, and a block to support the +31 scoring margin when he was on the court.
Mike Marable (Jr., Guard, Gwynedd Mercy): Marable lead the Griffins on the defensive end with two steals and 1.5 blocks per game in the 2-0 week. He also recorded the 1,000th point of his collegiate career while scoring 20 points in the win over Marywood. The basket came in the second half. He followed that up with a block and two steals in the 87-79 win at Neumann, this time pairing his defense with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Overall, Marable averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2 steals, and 1.5 block per game against the Pacers and the Knights.
Eric Neal (Sr., Guard, Cabrini): Neal registered six steals across Cabrini's two game slate, securing two on the road against Immaculata and four in a home victory over Centenary. The Wilmington, Del. native also reached double figures in both games, with 13 points against the Mighty Macs and a game-high 16 against the Cyclones.
Jalen Vaughns (Sr., Forward, Neumann): Vaughns averaged 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds for the Knights last week. The senior had nine points and nine rebounds at Marymount. He rebounded with 20 points and 10 boards against Gwynedd Mercy. Vaughns added four blocks and three steals.
