LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Men’s Basketball weekly award winners on Monday, as Neumann’s Kyle Thompson and Marymount’s Marcus Beckett were tabbed Player and Defensive Player of the Week respectively.
Player of the Week:
Name: Kyle Thompson
School: Neumann
Class: Graduate Student
Position: Guard
Hometown: Mullica Hill, New Jersey
High School: St. Joseph’s Prep
Brief Outlook of Week: Thompson averaged 23.5 points as Neumann went 1-1 at the Hamilton Tournament. The graduate student was named to the All-Tournament team. Thompson led the team with 29 points in a 109-81 win over Vermont State - Lyndon. He followed with 18 points in an 83-65 loss to host Hamilton. He hit four three-points in each game, shot 70.4% from the field and 57.1% from beyond the arc.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Name: Marcus Beckett
School: Marymount
Class: Senior
Position: Guard
Hometown: Harrisburg, Pa.
High School: Trinity Catholic
Brief Outlook of Week: Senior Marcus Beckett was named to the All-Tournament team this past weekend at the Pablo Coto Tip Off Tournament. Across the two games, he grabbed four steals and swatted a pair of blocks while grabbing nine boards. Beckett helped the Saints hold opponents to just 66 points per game in the 2-0 week.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Dylan Crews (Jr., Guard, Immaculata): Crews played strong defensively this week with five steals over the team's three games. Helped Immaculata win the Championship of the Mustang Classic Tournament hosted by Stevenson. In the Championship game against Stevenson, Crews had three steals, including an important one with 2:47 remaining with Immaculata holding a 60-58 lead. Crews made the steal and went right down to score to increase Immaculata's lead to four points. Crews helped defend Stevenson's final two offensive possessions as Immaculata won the game 66-64.
Marcus Stubbs (Sr., Guard, Marymount) – Stubbs was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player after leading the Saints to victory in the Pablo Coto Tip Off Tournament, hosted by Marymount. The senior dropped 33 total points across both games with 13 rebounds and nine assists.
Jalen Vaughns (Sr., Forward, Neumann) – Vaughns averaged 23.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week at the Hamilton Invitational. The senior was named to the All-Tournament team. Vaughns tallied 26 points and nine boards in a 109-81 win over Vermont State - Lyndon. he followed with 21 points and nine rebounds in the loss to Hamilton.
