Wesley's Gathers, Tolson Sweep Women's Basketball Weekly Honors
LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women's Basketball Players of the Week on Monday afternoon, as Wesley College swept the honors including Angelique Gathers as the Player of the Week and Shervohnia Tolson as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Player of the Week:
Name: Angelique Gathers
School: Wesley College
Class: Sophomore
Position: Forward
Hometown: Long Branch, N.J.
High School: Long Branch
Brief Outlook of Week: Gathers helped the Wolverines to a 2-1 week, earning wins over Medgar Evers and Cairn. She hit double figures in scoring in two of the three contests, led by 13 points against Medgar Evers. She also made that a double-double performance with 11 rebounds. For the week, she finished with 29 points, 19 rebounds, 12 assists, and six steals.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Name: Shervohnia Tolson
School: Wesley College
Class: Sophomore
Position: Guard
Hometown: Dover, Del.
High School: Dover
Brief Outlook of Week: Tolson was a key defensive player in a 2-1 week for Wesley, finishing with 20 rebounds, five steals and a blocked shot. She added 15 points across the three games. Of her 20 rebounds, it was an even split with 10 offensive and 10 defensive.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Jordan Rook (Immaculata / Freshman / Guard): Rook had a strong performance against a talented Moravian team, as the freshman set a new career-high in scoring, dropping in 14 points thanks in large part to career highs in both field goals and three-pointers made with four and two, respectively. Additionally, Rook ended the contest with three rebounds and three assists to go along with one steal and one block to help lead the Macs.
