HADDONFIELD, N.J. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Softball All-Conference teams and major awards on Thursday. The All-Conference teams are voted on by the league's head coaches.
Batting a .485 this spring, a conference high mark by .024, Marymount’s Kaylee Atkins was awarded Player of the Year Honors. Atkins’ batting average also places her top-40 in the nation. She recorded 66 hits through 136 at bats, sitting top 10 in the nation, while scoring 31 runs and adding 33 RBI’s. The senior posted a .987 fielding percentage, sitting second in the conference with 230 put outs, with an additional six assists. Her 17 doubles paired a perfect one-for-one with stolen bases, only bolstering her already impressive resume of a .514 on base percentage and .676 slugging percentage.
Bailey Demusz was unanimously tabbed Pitcher of the Year after an impressive senior campaign. Sitting third in the conference with a 3.55 ERA, Demusz went 11-7, pitching 10 complete games and adding one save, totaling 112.1 innings this spring. The senior compiled 99 strikeouts, leaving 27 batters looking. She allowed 114 hits and 67 runs, 57 of which were earned, walking 50 batters through her 18 games. Her season high 10 strikeouts came in March as the Saints posted a win over Gwynedd Mercy. Additionally, Demusz had one put outs and 14 assists on the fielding front.
Marywood received one major award as well via Amber Little who was tabbed Rookie of the Year. Little batted .420, ninth best in the conference. She had a .437 on base percentage, tallying 34 hits through 81 at bats, scoring 15 runs and providing 23 RBI’s. Her slugging mark was .642, top five in the conference. The freshman pitched 8.0 innings as well, giving up 12 total hits and striking out three batters.
Rylie Norris, a sophomore from Neumann, took home the Atlantic East Elite Scholar Athlete Award. This honor is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East’s championships. Norris is majoring in Health Science and holds an impressive 3.98 GPA. Full criteria can be found here.
Marymount was named Coaching Staff of the Year, following its best season yet in program history. Led by Head Coach Leigh Murray-Winstead, the Saints posted an 11-1 record in conference play, securing the top seed, while going 21-17 throughout regular season play. This season, Murray-Winstead and co. mentored five First Team and three Second Team All-Conference selections, alongside Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year athletes.
