St. Mary’s City, Md. - Marymount holds the lead after day one of the men’s swimming championship, sweeping the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay events.
To open the four day competition, Marymount recorded a 1:32.40 in the 200 medley relay, good for a first place finish. The group was led off by Vincent Tran, who was followed by Evan Pak and Cartsen Hicks before being closed out by Benjamin Clabeaux. Touching the wall nearly five seconds later was the quartet of Seahawks. Will Kendrick swam the leadoff leg, with Luca Fairbank, Anthony Davis, and Kyle Smith finishing the work, clocking a time of 1:37.36. The Pacers of Marywood received bronze, recording a time of 1:49.95, with Dominic Leone, Owen Turner, Alex McCarey, and Alex Corcoran making the splash.
With just two events on the opening night, Marymount went on to take home gold in the 800 freestyle relay, setting a new conference record with a time of 6:55.43. The Saints new record shaved over seven seconds off the prior time of 7:02.28. Noah Popp led things off, with Alexander Hain and Luke Claudy taking the middle legs, before Ryan Faherty sealed the record in the final leg.
It was once again St. Mary’s who secured silver, this time coming just three seconds shy of the first place spot, clocking a 6:58.55. Harrison Greenwald swam the opening 200 meters, followed by Daniel Madigan, Seth Geasey and Brendan Mannion to close out the night. The Pacers took home the final podium spot, posting an 8:16.74 time. Led off by Alex McCarey, Marywood was followed up by Anthony Ciotti and Owen Turner before having Sam O’Sullivan close things out. The Mighty Macs of Immaculata took to the pool for their lone event of the night, finishing fourth with a time of 8:25.96. Michael DeMattei swam the leadoff leg, followed by Aidan Gall, Lain Weitzel, and Connor Ferguson.
Day two of the championships will begin Friday, February 13th, with prelims at 10am followed by finals at 5:30 pm. Swimmers will take part in the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, and 200 freestyle relay.
