LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Men’s Track and Field weekly award winners on Tuesday, as Marymount’s Samuel Struggs and Gwynedd Mercy’s won Field Athlete and Track Athlete of the Week honors respectively.
Field Athlete of the Week:
Name: Samuel Struggs
School: Marymount University
Class: Junior
Hometown: Sugar Land, Texas
High School: Fort Bend Travis
Brief Outlook of Week: Samuel Struggs was the Saint's top placer in men's triple jump, covering a distance of 12.83m to finish second. He was also a leg of the Saints 4x100 relay team that took the top spot on Saturday.
Track Athlete of the Week:
Name: Victor Cruz
School: Gwynedd Mercy University
Class: Senior
Hometown: New Castle, Del.
High School: Odyssey Charter School
Brief Outlook of Week: In the men's events, the Griffins' enjoyed a first-place finish in the 400-Meter (1st, 49.11) from senior Victor Cruz. He also placed second in the 200-Meter (2nd, 22.04).
Weekly Honor Roll:
Dylan Crews (Sr., Immaculata): Dylan Crews finished 18th overall in the long jump at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University with a jump of 6.43 meters.
Tyson Scheitrum (Fr., Gwynedd Mercy): In the men's events at the Osprey Open, the Griffins' enjoyed a record Hammer (37.70) from freshman Tyson Scheitrum. He also placed sixth in the Discus (6th, 37.70) with the same distance.
Reuben McEachern (So., Marymount): Reuben McEachern ran to first place in the men's 400m hurdles at the Osprey Open, hitting a time of 57.80. He was also a leg of the men's 4x100 team that took first place at the meet.
Raidan Francis (So., Marywood): Francis ran the quickest Atlantic East time in both the 800 and 1,500 at Widener's Danny Curran Invite. Francis had the third-fastest 800 time in school history with a 1:58.44 for 26th place overall. He came in 36th overall with a 4:12.94 in the 1,500. His 4x400 relay with Robert Russo, Joseph Burke and Brody Graff also registered atop the Atlantic East performance list in 3:35.81.
Justin Cai (Fy., Pratt): Justin Cai was the highest placing finisher for the Cannoneer men in their outdoor season opener at The Big Hurt. The first-year finished fifth with a time of 10:50.22 in the 3000 meter.
