HADDONFIELD, N.J. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Men’s Soccer weekly award winners on Monday, as Neumann’s Jordan Illian was named Player of the Week and Marymount’s Bayron Banegas was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Player of the Week: Jordan Illian
School: Neumann
Class: Junior
Position: Forward
Hometown: Millsboro, Del.
High School: Indian River
Brief Outlook of Week: Illian scored four goals and added two assists as Neumann went 2-0 in conference action. In a 4-0 win over Centenary, the junior had five shots with one on net. In a 9-0 win at Pratt, the Millsboro, Del., native exploded with four goals and two assists, scoring his first two goals in just one minute to put the Knights up 3-0. Illian added two more goals in the second half.
Defensive Player of the Week: Bayron Banegas
School: Marymount
Class: Senior
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Springfield, Va.
High School: John Lewis
Brief Outlook of Week: Banegas shut down the offense in both AEC matches last week, picking up his third and fourth shutouts of the year in the net. He totaled four saves, three coming against Immaculata and one against Gwynedd Mercy. Saturday's shutout proved to be historic, as Banegas now sits alone, with 16 career shutouts, the most in program history.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Andrew Roberto, Gwynedd Mercy: Roberto totaled 18 saves in a 1-1 week that included a 2-0 shutout of AEC rival, Pratt. He made eight saves in the victory and followed it with a 10-save performance in the Griffins' 3-0 loss at Marymount.
Merlin Torres, Marymount: Torres scored the game-winning goal on his Senior Day in the Saints' 3-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday, adding an assist to his tally as well.
Jack Forbers, Marywood: Forbes scored in each of Marywood's Atlantic East victories this week. The junior had the game-winning goal in the 29th minute of a 4-0 victory over Saint Elizabeth. He then found the net in the seventh minute during a 4-1 win against Centenary over the weekend.
Ryan Schweigart, Marywood: Schweigart did not allow a goal in just over 166 minutes of play. He posted a clean sheet with seven saves against Saint Elizabeth before making one save in 76:48 minutes of action at Centenary.
AJ Henry, Neumann: Henry picked up two shutouts in a 2-0 conference week for Neumann. In a 4-0 win over Centenary, the senior made two saves. He followed with two saves in a 9-0 win at Pratt, upping his season tally to five shutouts.
Andrew Gonzalez, Saint Elizabeth: Gonzalez led the Eagles to the first win of the season, making seven saves against Immaculata, including multiple two-on-one and one-on-one saves.
