Marymount Picked to Defend their Atlantic East Title in Men's Soccer

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Saints of Marymount was tabbed to defend their Atlantic East Men’s Soccer title as voted on by the conference head coaches.

The Saints picked up five first place votes and 35 overall points. Marymount returns the 2022 Player of the Year, Leonardo Torres and the 2022 Rookie of the Year, Bayron Banegas. Torres had an incredible 2022 season, landing First Team All Region and tallying a league high 18 goals to pair with seven assists. Banegas led the league in both shutout games, with five shutouts and goals against average at .779.

Neumann was tabbed second after making the conference championship match in 2022. The Knights had one first place vote and 27 points overall. Neumann’s defense will look to the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Alex Duopu. The Knights also return the two other First Team All Conference Members in Jake Kuzmick and Eddie Proud.

Third in the preseason poll was Cabrini who finished just behind with 26 points. The Cavaliers will look to three first team returners in Jake Scully, Nolan Holloway, and Nick LoBiondo.

Immaculata received the final first place vote and 24 overall points. The Mighty Macs finished fourth as they return three of their four All Conference honorees from 2022. They include Josh Fonder, Dylan Walter, and Michael Balestriere.

Landing fifth in the polls was Marywood. The Pacers return three of its top four scorers from last season in Kyle Falcon, Kiernan Wilder and Danny Gomez.

Centenary tallied 11 points for fifth in the polls. The Cyclones are led by Matt Paterno and Kevin Lopez who both were recognized as All Conference Second Team Members.

Closing out the polls was Gwynedd Mercy with seven points. The Griffins return top point scorer Kasey Wallace to the lineup for the 2023 season.

All seven teams open their seasons on Friday, September 1. Conference play will commence on Saturday, September 30 with a match between Gwynedd Mercy and Marymount. Four teams kick off conference play on Wednesday, October 4 with match-ups between Neumann and Centenary, Cabrini and Gwynedd Mercy, and Marymount and Immaculata. Marywood’s first conference match up is Saturday, October 7th against Neumann.

The 2023 Atlantic East Tournament is set to begin with the quarterfinal round on Saturday, October 28 followed by the semifinals on Tuesday, October 31, and the title contest on Saturday, Nov 4.
