LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Softball All-Conference teams and major award winners on Monday afternoon, as Marymount, Cabrini and Marywood each earned major honors.
Top honors went to Marymount’s
Kaylynn Johnson who had a tremendous season. The third basemen finished the year with the top slugging percentage in the conference at .802, the most home runs with 11 and the most runs batted in with a tally of 39 for the season. Johnson was second with 50 hits and fourth with a batting average of .450. She led the Saints to a second place regular season finish
Pitcher of the Year honors went to Cabrini’s
Avery Byrnes who helped the Cavaliers finish atop the Atlantic East and win back-to-back conference titles. Byrnes had a conference earned run average of 1.50 with a 6-1 record in league play across 42 innings of work. The senior had an astounding 174 strikeouts on the season with opponents batting just .198 against the right hander.
Marywood’s
Marissa Gregory tallies Rookie of the Year honors after a strong first campaign. The first year was also named to the All Conference first team for her work on the mound for the Pacers. Gregory struck out 96 batters this season and had a 2.94 earned run average. She helped the Pacers finish as the Atlantic East Conference Runner Up collecting 14 wins on the year.
Cabrini was awarded Coaching Staff of the Year after back to back conference titles. The Cavaliers are led by Christ Protesto, assisted by Hilary Tutrani, Amy Laughlin, and Alycia Anne Sabol. Cabrini won the regular season title in 2023 and have an overall record of 29-12 as they continue the season with NCAA Tournament play.
Lastly, the Atlantic East Elite 20 award winner for softball, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East's 20 team championships, was awarded to
Kaitlyn Delaney. Delaney maintains a cumulative 4.0 GPA as part of the championship softball team. For the entire selection criteria and process,
