Sugerloaf, Pa. – The Cabrini University men's golf team won its fourth-straight Atlantic East Conference championship on Saturday, finishing with a team score of 631 (+71), at hosted by Marywood University.
Cabrini’s
Liam Casper won the individual title by one stroke with a two round total of 154. His top score earned him 2023 Atlantic East Golfer of the Year honors. Teammate
Frankie Sass tied for second with a score of 155 to earn Atlantic East Rookie of the Year honors. He tied with Marywood’s
Paul Appolt and Marymount’s
Roger Sauvage.
Marywood finished as the conference runner up with a team total of 652, while Neumann rounded out the top three at 673.
The Atlantic East Elite 20 Award is given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the final site of the championship. This year's award winner for men's golf was
Jonathan Papp of Cabrini.
Coaching Staff of the Year is voted on and determined by the coaches. This year the Cabrini coaching staff received the honor.
Marywood’s
Eddie McGreevy finished fifth with a two day score of 157. McGreevy’s top five finish makes him the last member of the All Conference First team.
Those finishing placed sixth through tenth earned Second Team All Conference recognition. New Jersey City University’s top finisher was
Tamuda Kaseke landing sixth with a two round score 160. Cabrini’s next finishers were
Dan Murphy and Papp who tied for seventh with a 36 hole total of 161. Tied for ninth were Neumann’s top finishers
Dionne Demke and
Christopher Prazych who carded a 162 across the two day championship.
William Paterson was led by
Anthony Slekis who finished fourteenth with a score of 166. Fourth was Marymount (675), William Paterson finished fifth (688), while New Jersey City University landed sixth (695). Full team and individual scores can be found on our championship page.
Cabrini with the victory will represent the Atlantic East at the NCAA DIII Men’s Golf Championship in Nichollasville, KY on May 16-19
