SCRANTON, Pa.- The Immaculata men's lacrosse team faced Scranton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Immaculata concluded their tournament run with a 20-8 loss to Scranton at Weiss Field on Wednesday afternoon. David Azzarano, Bailey Manion, and Ryan Gorman each scored two goals, and Matthew Ludlow made 20 saves for Immaculata.
This was Immaculata's first-ever trip to the NCAA tournament, and Scranton was making their third consecutive appearance. Despite the loss, Immaculata's first NCAA appearance highlighted the programs best season in their history. Immaculata finished the season 14-6 overall and captured their first Atlantic East Conference Championship, completing a 7-0 run through regular season and the conference tournament. The Mighty Macs set a record for wins in a season and had a program record of 11 game winning streak.
With the win, Scranton improves to 12-8 overall, and they were 9-0 in Landmark Conference play, and they will advance to play No. 7 Washington and Lee in the Second Round on Saturday in Lexington, Va.
How it Happened
- Immaculata opened the scoring at 10:13 of the first quarter, when Bailey Manion scored off an assist from Joseph Biuso to give Immaculata a 1-0 lead.
- Jason Smaron extended Immaculata's lead to 2-0 by scoring at 5:14 assisted by Joseph Biuso.
- Scranton scored at 4:13 to cut the lead to 2-1.
- David Azzarano scored at 3:07 assisted by Joseph Biuso, and at 2:33 assisted by Bailey Manion to give Immaculata a 4-1 lead.
- Scranton would score the final two goals in the first quarter as Immaculata led 4-3 after the first quarter of play.
- Scranton scored all six goals that were scored in the second quarter to take a 9-4 lead going into halftime.
- Ryan Gorman scored unassisted at 11:19 of the third quarter to cut the Scranton lead to 10-5.
- Bailey Manion scored at 13:00 of the fourth quarter unassisted.
- Ryan Gorman scored unassisted at 8:29 of the fourth quarter.
- Ben Wesolowski scored at 6:47 of the fourth quarter assisted by David Azzarano for Immaculata's eighth goal.
- Scranton would go on to close out the win 20-8.

- Matthew Ludlow was strong in goal for Immaculata making 20 saves on 69 shots faced including 37 on goal.
- Joseph Biuso had three assists.
- David Azzarano scored two goals and one assist, with four ground balls and one caused turnover.
- Bailey Manion scored two goals and had one assist and five shots. With his second goal at 13:00 of the fourth quarter Manion set a new IU program record for goals in a season with his 52nd goal breaking the previous record held by Mike Reardon in 2018.
