Immaculata wins Men's Lacrosse title over Marymount

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's lacrosse team captured their first Atlantic East Conference in program history on Saturday afternoon defeating Marymount 15-12 at Draper Walsh Stadium. Bailey Manion scored eight goals to earn Championship MVP honors. Goalkeeper Matthew Ludlow made 13 saves in goal for Immaculata. The win was Immaculata's 11th straight win extending their program record winning streak. Immaculata earns their first trip to the NCAA Tournament with the Atlantic East Conference's automatic bid.

With the win Immaculata improves to 14-5 overall and they were 5-0 in Atlantic East Confrence play this season. Marymount falls to 11-6, and they were 4-1 in Atlantic East Conference play.
 
How it Happened
  • David Azzarano opened the scoring at 13:08 of the first quarter. Bailey Manion scored at 11:14 to give Immaculata a 2-0 lead. Joseph BiusoSeth Panowitz, and Ben Wesolowski all scored goals to give Immaculata a 5-0 lead. Bailey Manion scored his second goal of the game assisted by Aiden Lawrence to increase Immaculata's lead to 6-0.
  • Marymount got a goal from Robert Kirkland to make the score 6-1. Bailey Manion scored his third and fourth goals both assisted by David Azzarano to give Immaculata an 8-1 lead after one quarter of play.
  • Marymount drew first blood in the second quarter with a goal from Drew Bedard. Seth Panowitz scored Immaculata's lone goal in the second quarter at 9:00 to increase Immaculata's lead to 9-2. Marymount scored the final four goals of the second quarter with scores Robert Kirkland, two from Ian Fructuoso and one from Bryan Maguire as Immaculata led 9-6 at halftime.
  • Marymount scored early in the third quarter with a goal from Drew Bedford. Bailey Manion scored back-to-back goals for Immaculata, the second one assisted by Jason Smaron to put Immaculata up 11-7. Ian Frucuoso scored late in the third quarter as Immaculata led 12-9, heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Ian Fructuoso scored twice early in the fourth quarter for Marymount to cut the Immaculata lead to 12-11 with 13:35 remaining in the game. Immaculata goalkeeper Matthew Ludlow made three saves to keep Immaculata in the lead. Ben Wesolowski increased Immaculata's lead to 13-11 at 9:04 with a behind the back shot goal off an assist from David Azzarano.
  • Drew Bedard scored for Marymount at 5:23 to cut the lead to 13-12. Marymount had an opportunity to tie the game after winning the face-off, but Matt Ludlow made a save on a shot by Bedard. Immaculata ran time off the clock, and a shot by Ryan Gorman was saved. Marymount carried the ball up the field and Colton Rhoades caused Gavin Taylorson to turn over the ball and grabbed the ground ball for Immaculata. Immaculata called a timeout.
  • Following the timeout, Bailey Manion scored his eighth goal of the game (his 50th goal of the season) with 1:59 remaining to give Immaculata a 14-12 lead. With Marymount desperate, Ryan Gorman scored with 1:22 remaining as Immaculata would win the game 15-12.
