Gwynedd Mercy's Brown and Neumann's Smith Earn Women's Volleyball Weekly Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women's Volleyball weekly award winners on Monday for the week ending September 10th. Gwynedd’s Ashley Brown earned Player of the Week, while Dani Smith of Marywood claimed Specialist of the Week.

Player of the Week:
Name: Ashley Brown
School: Gwynedd Mercy
Class: Senior
Position: Middle Hitter
Hometown:  Lansdale, Pa.
High School:  Lansdale Catholic
Brief Outlook of Week: Brown had a monster week, totaling 29 kills on a .643 hitting percentage in Griffin 2-0 week. Ashley averaged 5.29 points per set, and 4.14 kills per set with only two errors on the week. The senior added five aces, a solo block, and four block assists to her kills. She also recorded an assist and two digs.

Specialist of the Week:
Name: Dani Smith
School: Neumann
Class: Junior
Position: Setter
Hometown: Morinville, Alberta
High School: Morinville Community
Brief Outlook of Week: Smith handed out 142 assists (35.5/match) in a 4-0 week for the Knights. The junior also added 41 digs, 10 kills, eight service aces and five blocks. Her week high came against Vassar with 42 assists while tallying 39 against Ursinus. Also against the Bears, Smith notched 18 digs.

Weekly Honor Roll:
Lauren Garvey (Sr., Hitter, Neumann):  Garvey tallied 63 kills and a .308 hitting percentage for a 4-0 week for Neumann. The senior notched double-digit kills in each match, including two matches with 19 kills. Against St. Joseph (Conn.), Garvey hat 19 kills and a hitting percentage of .586.

Poppy Skjonnemand (Sr., Setter, Ettien): Skjonnemand led the Cyclones to a to a 2-0 week. Her best game of the week game against Cairn where she tallied 25 kills and a a.254 hitting percentage.

Gaston Ayanna (So., Setter, Gwynedd Mercy): Gaston directed the Griffins to a .213 hitting percentage on the week with 45 assists. She also offered three kills, four aces, a block assist, and ten digs across two games against Penn State Abington and Bryn Mawr.

Eliza Freeman (Jr., Libero/DS, Marymount): In five games on the week the junior contributed 85 total digs. At the first home match of the season against Gallaudet, Freeman tallied 23 total digs for the match. She also added eight assists.
