McShea, Escano Tabbed Women's Basketball Players of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women's Basketball Players of the Week on Monday, as Marymount University's Katie McShea earned Player of the Week and Centenary University's Carmen Escano grabbed Defensive Player of the Week.

Player of the Week:

Brief Outlook of Week: McShea led the Saints to a 1-1 split last week that included a 17-point win over UAA power University of Rochester. The senior averaged 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds across both contests. Against Shenandoah University, McShea led the saints with a 15-point, 12-rebound, double-double. She also added two assists, one steal, and one block. She followed that up with arguably her best game of the season with a season-high 26 points and 13 rebounds. She shot 11-for-18 (61.1%) from the floor to help the Saints down the Yellowjackets.

Defensive Player of the Week:

Brief Outlook of Week: Escano was a double-double machine while leading the Cyclones to a 1-1 week. She averaged 18.5 points and 11 rebounds per game while adding 2.0 steals per game. Escano had a season-high 21 points and 12 rebounds in the road win at Valley Forge. She added four steals and three assists in the contest. On Saturday, Escano posted her second straight double-double and fourth of the season. She finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the game. Escano has now recorded double-digit rebounds in five of the first six games.

Weekly Honor Roll:
Taylor Bossert (Centenary / Senior): Bossert poured in the points while leading the Cyclones to a 1-1 week. She averaged 20.5 points per game and was aided by going 15-for-16 from the foul line in the two games combined. Bossert also added 2.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Bossert contributed 19 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal in the road win at Valley Forge. She was an impressive 10-for-10 from the foul line from the contest, that included a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final minute to seal the win. On Saturday against Valley Forge, Bossert poured in a team-high 22 points, her second 20+ point performance on the season. She added two rebounds, three assists and three steals in the game.

Kelly Owens (Gwynedd Mercy / Junior): Junior guard Kelly Owens (Schwenksville, Pa.) hit 5-of-9 (.556) from long range to keep Gwynedd Mercy University (3-4) in tonight's 71-64 loss at Misericordia University (3-2). The Cougars overcame the Griffins' early 8-2 lead to own a 24-21 first-quarter advantage before a low scoring second quarter left the home team ahead 30-25 at halftime. After intermission, Misericordia University remained at arm's length as they led 50-43 at the end of the third quarter and by as many as 10 points, 55-45 (7:51) in the fourth quarter before the final settled on a seven-point spread. Owens added two rebounds and two steals to her scoring.

Abigail Lentowski (Immaculata / Freshman): Lentowski led the Mighty Macs defensively in their game against Swarthmore on Monday, recording 13 rebounds on the game. Lentowski also recorded one steal, one assist, and three points scored on the game.

Jordan Rook (Immaculata/ Junior): Rook put in a strong week for the Mighty Macs, leading the team in scoring with 19 points against Swarthmore on Monday. Rook shot 7-for-12 from the field and 1-for-1 from beyond the arc on the week. Rook also contributed with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals on the night.
