Immaculata Sweeps Women's Basketball Major Awards

HADDONFIELD, N.J. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women's Basketball All-Conference teams and major awards on Wednesday. The All-Conference teams are voted on by the league's head coaches.

Immaculata’s Carly Coleman was named the Player of the Year following a historical sophomore campaign. She shot .486%, a fourth-best mark in conference history, totaling 433 points while averaging 17.3 per game. The sophomore and 2025 Rookie of the Year went 117-for-147 from the line, a 79.6 free throw percentage.  With two triple-doubles on the season, Coleman recorded a staggering 16 double-doubles throughout the regular season, leading to a combination of nine Player and Defensive Player of the Week nods. She scored double digits in 24 of her 25 games this season.

Making her presence known as an undeniable two way player, Coleman was also awarded the 2026 Defensive Player of the Year award. Playing the second-most minutes of any player, at 840, Coleman was a force to be reckoned with across the court. She totaled the most rebounds in the conference with 272, sixth-best all-time, while averaging the second most rebounds per game at 10.9. Coleman’s 29 blocked shots were fifth-most across the conference, coupled with 71 steals, leading the pack with an average of 2.8 per game.

Fellow Mighty Mac Abby Grillo received Rookie of the Year accolades after starting every single regular season game for Immaculata. Throughout her 746 minutes, Grillo scored 323 points, an average of 12.9 points per game. Her 5.3 rebounds per game came from a total of 132 boards. The freshman fell sixth in the conference for 3-point field goals, averaging 1.6 per game and totaling 41 on the regular season. She also dished out 54 assists, blocked 17 shots, and took away 45 steals. 

Riley Cassiy, a senior from Immaculata, took home the Atlantic East Elite Scholar Athlete Award. This honor is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East’s championships. Cassiy is majoring in Biology and boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA. Full criteria can be found here.

The Coaching Staff of the Year was awarded to Immaculata, who are led by Head Coach Brittany Whalem. The Mighty Macs posted a perfect 14-0 conference record, going 22-3 overall, securing the top seed in postseason play. Under Whalen’s tutelage, Immaculata swept the major awards and received one First Team and one second team All-Conference selection this season.
