McShea, Owens Garner Women's Basketball Awards

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women's Basketball Players of the Week on Monday, as Marymount University's Katie McShea earned Player of the Week and Gwynedd Mercy University's Kelly Owens grabbed Defensive Player of the Week.

Player of the Week:
Name: Katie McShea
School: Marymount University
Class: Senior
Position: Forward
Hometown: Hainesport, NJ
High School: Bishop Eustace Prep
Brief Outlook of Week: McShea led MU to a 2-1 record through the Saints' first week of play. The senior averaged 15.7 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 4.0 apg, and 1.7 bpg, all of which were team-highs. McShea shot 63.3% from the floor and 81.8% from the free throw line. She posted a double-double in the season-opening win over Kean University with 23 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. On top of her point-total, McShea shot a stellar 91.7% (11-for-12) from field goal range. She added 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists against Johns Hopkins University.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Name: Kelly Owens
School: Gwynedd Mercy University
Class: Junior
Position: Guard
Hometown: Schwenksville, PA
High School: Perkiomen Valley
Brief Outlook of Week: Owens totaled 11 steals in three games, including a a pair of five-steal efforts in the first two games of the season. She also averaged 12.7 PPG while grabbing seven rebounds and making three assists. Her best game was was an 18-point effort versus Penn State Lehigh Valley.

Weekly Honor Roll:
Haley Crossley (Gwynedd Mercy / Junior): In a 1-2 opening week, Crossley averaged 22.3 PPG and 8.0 RPG, while recording three assists, a block, and six steals. She was named to the All-Gwynedd Mercy University Tip-Off Tournament Team after leading the Griffins in a 1-1 tournament effort, but her best game of the week was a 27-point, 11-rebound double-double in the Season Opener vs. Kings College (PA).

Miranda Liebtag (Cabrini / Junior): Liebtag had a monster opening week for Cavaliers, averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3 assists, while shooting .480 from the floor, including .500 for three point range. The junior opened the season with 17 points in a win over Easter, then paired 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in a loss to Muhlenberg.

Katie Rodriguez (Cabrini / Sophomore): Rodriguez opened the season with 11.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4 blocked shots in Cabrini's 2 games last week. The sophomore opened the season with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks and a steal in a win over Eastern, then added 8 points, 13 boards and 6 blocks in a loss to Muhlenberg.
