Women's Basketball 11/22/2021 12:23:09 PM Eggers, Klemick Garner Women's Basketball Weekly Awards LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women's Basketball Players of the Week on Monday, as Gwynedd Mercy University's Lynzie Eggers earned Player of the Week and Marywood University's Stephanie Klemick grabbed Defensive Player of the Week. Player of the Week: Name: Lyznie Eggers School: Gwynedd Mercy University Class: Sophomore Position: Guard Hometown: Turnersville, NJ High School: Gloucester Catholic Brief Outlook of Week: Eggers averaged 19.3 PPG in addition to eight rebounds, two assists, and nine steals in the Griffins' 2-1 week. She supported (12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals) in a 79-64 Battle of 309 victory and a 100-63 loss to DeSales University in the first game at the Messiah University Tip-Off Tournament, before dominating the second half of the Griffins' 77-71 Consolation Game win over Saint Vincent College. Eggers took over in the second half, scoring 25 of her 31 points in the latter half; she was 7-of-11 (.636) from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 (1.000) from the line while grabbing six rebounds and making a steal. The result was much as a 10-point, 50-40 (1:43), Griffin lead in the third quarter and as much as 18-point, 65-47 (6:55), lead in the fourth quarter. The Bearcats managed to make the final deficit respectable with a 24-12 run in the final seven minutes. Defensive Player of the Week: Name: Stephanie Klemick School: Marywood University Class: Freshman Position: Forward Hometown: Emmaus, PA High School: Emmaus Brief Outlook of Week: Klemick combined for 14 blocks to help Marywood to a 2-1 week. She helped the Pacers to a 69-63 win over Wilkes with 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks. In just six career games, she has registered two of the three highest single-game block totals in Marywood history. Klemick averaged eight rebounds per game over the three-game stretch. Weekly Honor Roll: Katie McShea (Marymount / Senior): McShea led the Saints to a 1-1 split at the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament this past week. The senior averaged 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds across both contests with a 41.7% field goal percentage. In Marymount's victory over Eastern University, McShea tallied eight points, four rebounds, two steals, and one block in just 23 minutes of action. Against Catholic University, she posted a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. McShea was stellar from the free-throw line against the Cardinals with a 90.9% (10-for-11) free throw percentage. Cayla Sharkey (Gwynedd Mercy / Junior): Sharkey scored 7.7 PPG and grabbed 8.0 RPG while marking seven blocks and five steals in the Griffins' 2-1 week. She offered an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double to Gwynedd Mercy University's 79-64 Battle of 309 victory over Arcadia University. Sharkey also recorded two blocks and three steals against the Knights. She started both games at the Messiah University Tip-Off Tournament; she totaled nine points, seven rebounds, an assist, and four blocks in the 100-63 loss to DeSales University before contributing three points, seven rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals to a 77-71 victory over Saint Vincent College. Katie Rodriguez (Cabrini / Sophomore): Rodriguez averaged 7.5 rebounds, 4 steals and 1.5 steals in two games last week.
