Haddonfield. N.J. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the league's Man of the Year on Wednesday afternoon, naming Marymount University’s Quincy Via as the recipient of the award.
The Man of the Year award is presented to one male student-athlete who combined superior academic and athletic achievement during their career thus far. The successful candidate(s) must have competed in an Atlantic East-sponsored championship sport from a full-member institution. For full award criteria, see here.
Via, a member of Marymount baseball team, led the Saints to a second consecutive Atlantic East Title. The senior was named 2026 Atlantic East Player of the Year, adding to his accolades of being a three-time All-Conference First Team selection (2024, 2025, 2026). Furthermore, Via was placed on the All-American Second Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the first Marymount baseball player to ever receive All-American recognition. The Springfield, Va., native was awarded First Team All-Region by the ABCA and D3Baseball.com as well.
The three-time Team Captain’s most notable feat this year came via his 62 stolen bases on 68 attempts, a feat that placed him first in the nation. He batted an impressive .422 while slugging .578. On the season, he also had 15 doubles, two triples, and three home runs, while scoring 62 runs and driving in 33 RBI’s. Across his four seasons, Via stole 131 total bases all while recording 180 hits, 101 RBI’s, 31 doubles, six triples, and eight home runs.
In the classroom, Via was a four-time Atlantic East All-Academic Team selection, making Dean’s List every semester at Marymount, graduating Summa Cum Laude which requires a 3.8+ GPA. In 2025, he was inducted as a Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society member, a group for student athletes who achieve at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Via also found several ways to remain an active member on campus and in his community, displaying strong service and leadership qualities. He was a Spirit of Service Scholar, completing 60+ hours of community service each semester, all while holding a part-time job as a personal trainer, and maintaining his 3.8+ GPA. Via aided in several programs such as an AHA HeartWalk Volunteer, Freshman Move-In Volunteer, Second Story for Homeless Teens, Second Story for Young Mothers, being a volunteer youth baseball coach, and more, He also participated in Special Olympics and SAAC, eventually becoming Secretary of SAAC from 2024-25 and President from 2025-26.
This past year, Via was given the Marymount Athletics Male Student-Athlete Leadership Award, embodying the Saint’s core values and demonstrating leadership service. Serving as a student leader for Campus Crusades for Christ (CRU), Via helped create spaces where students could explore their faith and build meaningful, long-lasting relationships. He was the Vice President during 2024 before being elevated to President for the 2025 year, planning many events on campus and working as a collective to meet up with members and help them grow spiritually. He also created and led a Baseball Bible Study in 2023, that is still running today, along with being an Athlete's Bible Study Leader since 2024. At the conclusion of his junior year, in 2025, Via was awarded the Marymount Strength and Conditioning Iron Saint Award, which is given to the student athlete who demonstrates discipline, leadership, resilience, and hard work through weight training sessions year-round.
A Reflection From Quincy:
"When I arrived on campus as an 18-year-old, much of my identity was tied to performance. I was focused on relevance—wanting people to know me as a great player and to recognize my accomplishments. While those wants were not wrong, over the past four years, my focus has shifted. Marymount provided an environment that allowed me to grow and transform through my experiences as a scholar, athlete, and leader. Today, as a 22-year-old graduate, my life is centered on faith, service, and significance. Rather than asking, “How can I make a name for myself?” I now ask, “How can I best steward the gifts and opportunities God has given me to positively impact those around me?”
As a student-athlete, one of the most significant achievements came when, by a vote from my teammates, I became the first sophomore captain in baseball program history. This opportunity to serve my team taught me that leadership is about far more than performance and titles; it's about influence, people knowing that you care, how you make others feel, and how you carry yourself daily. This experience as an underclassman prepared me to step into even greater leadership roles on campus as an upperclassman.
One of the most rewarding experiences was forming a baseball Bible study group and leading the Marymount student-athletes' Bible study. Stepping into those roles pushed me outside my comfort zone and taught me that leadership is not about having all the answers, but caring about others and what they care about, and finding answers together to benefit the collective. Through these ministries, we created a safe space, and I was able to witness my teammates and friends grow spiritually and recommit their lives to faith. This not only affects who they are on campus but also their future beyond Marymount.
My journey as a scholar, athlete, and leader has taught me to prioritize service and the needs of others over individual recognition and to focus on the significance of impact to the greater good over staying relevant with achievements. These experiences at Marymount have rearranged my priorities and empowered me to lead better- to push through when it’s hard, to invest in building meaningful relationships, and to serve others. Serving is the core difference maker in having a long-lasting impact on the community."
