HADDONFIELD. N.J. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Sportsmanship Team of the Year award on Tuesday, an award voted on by the athletic directors of the league institutions, naming Saint Elizabeth University's Baseball as team the winner.
The Sportsmanship Team of the Year award is given to a team that positively affected the game environment and exhibited acts and/or behaviors based on values, respect and integrity.
“True sportsmanship and integrity are not tested when a team is winning championships; they are revealed in how a program carries itself, respects the game, and serves others during a grueling and highly adverse competitive season,” said Saint Elizabeth University's Director of Athletics, James Adams.
Saint Elizabeth baseball posted a 6-30 record on the season under the tutelage of Dan Furbeck in his second season at the helm. Finishing at the bottom of the conference standings the Eagles chose to anchor themselves in the core values of the Atlantic East, exhibiting a level of character and selflessness that significantly elevated Saint Elizabeth’s campus and game environments.
The team achieved a department-high 3.36 cumulative GPA and a 100% senior graduation rate (including two accelerated three-year graduates and two Master’s degree recipients). “On the field, in the face of continuous tough losses, the student-athletes never wavered in their etiquette,” added Adams.
Each year we recognize a team for their work off the playing field with this award. Immaculata softball encompasses the sportsmanship and off field work that the conference strives for. The 2024-25 winner was Immaculata University’s Softball program.
