Marymount Baseball's Season Ends in NCAA Lynchburg Regionals

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Marymount baseball wrapped up their 2025 season in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, falling to Maryville College in an elimination round by a final score of 8-6.

The Saints won their second Atlantic East Conference Championship in the 2025 season, heading to their second-ever NCAA Regionals in just their 11th season as a program. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maryville plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead, but the Saints would answer in the following frame.
  • Jonathan McMath led off the inning with a triple to right center, with center fielder Kevin Knoess following it up by doing his job with a deep fly to drive in the first run and being credited with the sacrifice fly. 
  • With one out, Daniel Fernandez shot a double, and after Jordan Dickson reached via a hit by pitch, the Saints had two on with one away.
  • Quincy Via came through, knocking a single to left center to score Fernandez. 
  • With runners on the corner, still in the top of the second, the Saints pulled off a successful steal play on the basepaths to score Dickson and put MU within one run.
  • The Scots scored a run in both the third, fourth, and fifth innings to go up 7-3.
  • In the top of the sixth, Leitzel drove in Knoess with a single through the right side to start scratching away at the deficit.
  • Knoess shot an RBI double to left field to score Ryan Cuadros, who singled earlier in the frame, putting the Saints behind by just two runs heading into the bottom of the seventh.
  • Maryville scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, pushing their lead back out to three runs.
  • Andrew Schaeb singled to left to score Quincy Via in the top of the eighth to try and keep momentum in Marymount's dugout heading into the ninth.
  • The Saints were unable to mount the comeback in the ninth, ending their season on the national stage.
  • Via, Leitzel and Jack McCarthy all had a pair of hits.
  • Knoess and Fernandez each had a double.
  • McMath's lone hit was his triple in the second.
  • Sean Quinn had a scoreless outing in relief, notching a strikeout.
  • Liam Progulske allowed just one earned run in his start on the mound with a strikeout.
  • Ketz Murray pitched 3.0 innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts.
  • Ryan Mariani had a strikeout in his outing out of the bullpen.
