LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women’s Lacrosse weekly award winners on Monday, as Neumann’s Alena Catka and Immaculata’s Abigail Guarneri won Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors respectively.
Player of the Week:
Name: Alena Catka
School: Neumann University
Class: Sophomore
Position: Attack/Midfield
Hometown: Brookhaven, Pa.
High School: Sun Valley
Brief Outlook of Week: Alena Catka scored seven goals and added two assists as Neumann defeated Marywood 23-10 to clinch the No. 2 seed in the postseason. She led the team with 12 shots, nine on goal, grabbed five draw controls and three ground balls.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Name: Abigail Guarneri
School: Immaculata University
Class: Junior
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Elkton, Md.
High School: Elkton
Brief Outlook of Week: Abigail Guarneri made 13 saves on 28 shots faced, and 20 shots on goal, leading Immaculata to a 16-7 AEC win over Centenary in their season finale on April 23rd.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Abby Dunn (Jr., Marymount): Abby Dunn caused a turnover and picked up two ground balls during the Saints decisive win against Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday in the final game of the regular season. She added seven draw controls to her credit.
Avery Meighan (Jr., Marywood): Meighan finished her regular season with nine draw controls, four caused turnovers and three ground balls in a loss to Neumann. She set both Marywood single-season records for caused turnovers (50) and ground balls (78).
Abbey Fenton (Gr., Neumann): Abbey Fenton made 12 saves in a 23-10 win over Marywood as Neumann clinched the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic East postseason. She also picked up four ground balls and caused a turnover.
Jacki Murray (5th., Immaculata): Jacki Murray scored seven goals and added one assist, seven ground balls, three caused turnovers, and five draw controls, in Immaculata's 16-7 win over Centenary in her final game in a Mighty Mac uniform. Murray finishes her four-year career at Immaculata as the program's all-time leader in goals (240), points (286), and draw controls (328).
Ella Baker (Sr., Marymount): Ella Baker had eight points against the Griffins in the Saints regular season finale on Wednesday, noting six goals and two assists. She added a ground ball and went perfect from the free position to help Marymount pick up momentum heading into the AEC Tournament.
Kortney Harry (Sr., Marywood): Harry scored five of the Pacers' 10 goals in a loss to Neumann.
