Marymount's Baker and Smith named Women's Lacrosse Athletes of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women’s Lacrosse weekly award winners on Monday, as Marymount’s Ella Baker and Hannah Smith won Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors respectively.

Player of the Week:

Brief Outlook of Week: In the Saints' convincing 17-4 win over Bridgewater on Wednesday, Ella Baker collected five total points on four goals and an assists, adding a draw control and a ground ball to her line.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Name: Hannah Smith
School: Marymount University
Class: Senior

Hometown: Wilmington, N.C.
High School: EA Laney
Brief Outlook of Week: Hannah Smith allowed just four goals in the Saints' win over Bridgewater on Wednesday. Swatting away five saves, the senior picked up a ground ball in the win.

Weekly Honor Roll:
Gianna Papa (So., Gwynedd Mercy):
Four separate Griffins recorded hat tricks in Wednesday's 17-6 at Wilkes University, but sophomore attack Gianna Papa led the Red and Gold with a career-high 5 points (3 goals, 2 assists). She took four shots, while recovering a ground ball and a caused turnover. 

Alena Catka (So., Neumann): Alena Catka led the Knights with 10 goals and four assists in a 1-1 week. She also went 2-for-3 in free position shots, grabbed 19 draw controls, four ground balls and caused four turnovers. In a 19-5 win over Delaware Valley in the home opener, the junior scored six goals, added three assists and 14 draw controls. Catka added four goals and an assist with five draw controls in a 15-9 loss at Juniata.

Cheyenne Avellino (Sr., Gwynedd Mercy): Avellino was the backbone of the Griffins' 17-4 win at Wilkes University with 3 goals on 6 shots, 4 ground balls, 4 caused turnovers, and 5 draw controls.

Avery Meighan (Jr., Marywood): Meighan recorded six draw controls, five ground balls and four caused turnovers in a loss to Lebanon Valley. She joined the 200 Point Club for her career with four goals and two assists for six points.

Abbey Fenton (Gr,. Neumann): Abbey Fenton made 12 saves in a over 100 minutes in net, going 1-1 for the week. In over 40 minutes of action against Delaware Valley, the graduate student made a pair of saves in the 19-5 win. She then made 10 saves at Juniata in a 15-9 loss.
