LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Softball weekly award winners on Monday, as Neumann’s Emily Ammon and Marymount’s Bailey Demusz won Player and Pitcher of the Week honors respectively.
Player of the Week:
Name: Emily Ammon
School: Neumann University
Class: Junior
Position: Catcher
Hometown: Gap, Pa.
High School: Pequea Valley
Brief Outlook of Week: Emily Ammon batted .409 (9-for-22) in a 3-3 week for the Knights. The junior had at least one hit in all six games. Three of her hits were triples. Leading off, she scored nine runs and went 6-for-7 in stolen bases. The junior also broke the career record in stolen cases this week (43-Kristen Pagliaro) and currently has 47.
Pitcher of the Week:
Name: Bailey Demusz
School: Marymount University
Class: Junior
Position: RHP
Hometown: Doylestown, Pa.
High School: Central Bucks West
Brief Outlook of Week: Bailey Demusz earned the win in both games against Penn State-Abington last week. Throwing 11.0 innings, allowing just one earned run, the junior struck out 11 across both games.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Jocelyn Baumeister (5th, Gwynedd Mercy): Baumeister went 0-3 despite holding the Griffins' opponents to eight earned runs on 13 hits and three walks. She struck out 10 while allowing one earned run in a start against Penn State Brandywine, struck out six against Haverford College, and five more against Penn State Berks for 21 strikeouts this week.
Brianna Voyer (Fr., Marywood): Despite going winless over two starts, Voyer posted a 2.15 ERA over 13 innings pitched. She finished the week with five strikeouts. Voyer allowed just five hits and did not allow an earned run in a 2-1 loss to Penn State Schuylkill.
Marina Costello (Gr., Neumann): Marina Costello made two appearances and one start and a 3-3 week for the Knights. In 7.1 innings pitched, the graduate student allowed five runs on 10 hits and struck out 11. She also hit .525 (11-for-21) with three doubles, seven RBI and four runs scored. In 6.0 innings at Penn State Abington, Costello struck out nine.
Tori Para (Jr., Marywood): Para batted .583 with a 1.782 OPS over four games. She tallied five runs, four extra-base hits and four RBIs. Para extended her hitting streak to six games. She went 1 for 2 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs in the Pacers' lone win over Penn State Schuylkill. Para had two-hit games in both ends of a doubleheader at Cedar Crest.
Kaylee Atkins (Jr., Marymount): Junior Kaylee Atkins knocked in four runs in last week's double header sweep over Penn State-Abington, going 3-for-6 at the dish. In the circle, she struck out a pair in 3.0 innings of work.
Jess Oldham (5th., Immaculata): Jess Oldham was a combined 8-20 (.400) with four runs scored, nine RBIs and four home runs over six games for Immaculata. On March 18, Oldham went 1-4 with a home run and two RBIs in game one of their doubleheader with PSU-Abington. In game two she went 3-3, with three home runs, and five RBIs. The three home runs in a game were an IU single game program record. Oldham had hits in each of the four other games for Immaculata, with RBIs in game two vs Wilkes on March 20th, and two RBIs in game two of their Saturday doubleheader at Swarthmore.
D’Ani Morales (Jr., Centenary): D'Ani Morales in her first season with CU Softball had 5 hits on the week in her 4 games this week. She added in Rbi in their battle versus Delaware Valley.
