LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Baseball weekly award winners on Monday, as Gwynedd Mercy’s Ryan Horner and Immaculata’s Alex LePage won Player and Pitcher of the Week honors respectively.
Player of the Week:
Name: Ryan Horner
School: Gwynedd Mercy University
Class: Sophomore
Position: Third-Base
Hometown: Cinnaminson, N.J.
High School: Cinnaminson
Brief Outlook of Week: Horner continues to rake, as the sophomore hot corner stayed hot at the plate with a 6-for-13 week that produced three runs and six runs-batted-in (RBI). He was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs, and two RBI in a 10-5 win over Rosemont College, 2-for-4 with three RBI in a 14-0 (7) win over Notre Dame (MD), and 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI in a 6-4 triumph over #21 Gettysburg College.
Pitcher of the Week:
Name: Alex LePage
School: Immaculata University
Class: Sophomore
Hometown: Cinnaminson, N.J.
High School: Cinnaminson
Brief Outlook of Week: Alex LePage threw a complete game (9 innings) one hitter on Saturday at Ursinus allowing one run, zero earned runs, with four walks, and 12 strike outs in Immaculata's 6-1 win in game one of the doubleheader. LePage retired the final 10 Ursinus batters in order to close out the game.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Brayden Scott (Fr., Gwynedd Mercy): Scott (3-0) helped the Griffins score a win over #21 Gettysburg College with 6.0 strong innings in his third win of the season. He allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out two.
Max Ryan (Jr., Marywood): Ryan notched a win over St. Elizabeth, allowing just two hits over five scoreless innings pitched. He struck out seven and walked just one batter.
Chris Balshuweit (Sr., Neumann): Chris Balshuweit went 3.2 scoreless innings in relief and picked up a win at Penn State Abington in the senior’s lone appearance of the week. He struck out three. He also batted .412 (7-for-17) at the plate with five runs scored, four RBI and a stolen base. In the first game at Moravian, Balshuweit went 3-for-5 at the plate. While the pitcher of record in game two, he knocked in two runs of the three-run ninth inning where the Knights broke the 6-6 tie and won 9-6.
Steven Theisen (5th, Immaculata): Steven Theisen went a combined 8-17 (.471) with three runs scored, and two RBIs in four games this week. He went 3-3 vs Haverford on Friday, and went a combined 3-8 with two runs scored and an RBI in Saturday's doubleheader at Ursinus.
Christian Michak (Jr., Marywood): In four games, Michak led the Pacers with a .471 batting average, 11 runs, six RBIs and a 1.571 OPS. He hit six extra-base hits, including four doubles, a triple and a home run. On the base paths, Michak went a perfect 5 for 5 in stolen bases. In a win over New Jersey City, he went 4 for 6 with three doubles and four RBIs. Michak hit a leadoff home run in an 11-0 win over St. Elizabeth — one of four runs scored that game.
Thomas Carroll (Sr., Neumann): Thomas Carroll batted .438 (7-for-16) in a 3-1 week for Neumann. Four of his hits were doubles and he knocked in three runs, scored four and stole two bases. In a 9-6 win at Penn State Abington, the senior hit a bases-clearing double.
