Cabrini Student Athletes and Staff Named Medal of Inspiration Recipients

Lancaster, Pa. – On Thursday afternoon, the Atlantic East Conference announced Cabrini University as the recipient of the Medal of Inspiration.

Cabrini finished as an integral part of the start and leadership of the Atlantic East through its time with the conference across the six years.

Vice President for Athletics and Student Engagement, Kate Corcoran speaks about the year on campus, “The student athletes, coaches and staff have endured a year that had them competing and working in an environment that is unlike anything of our competitors. These athletes and staff members showed up every day competing and supporting our student athletes while the future remained uncertain for each individual. They represented the University and athletics department with tremendous character throughout this last year and closed out the Cabrini Athletics Legacy with pride.”

The medal of inspiration is designed to recognize those that have worked through adversity to excel both on and off the field of play. The Cavaliers finished the year with 103 academic all-conference members who continued to excel in the classroom despite the uncertainty of their environment.

To highlight some of the 2023-24 accomplishments the Atlantic East will recognize the All Conference First Team members in their respective sports. The Cavaliers placed 32 members on the First team with an additional 16 earning second team recognition. Full list can be found below. In addition Cabrini took home three player of the year honors, four defensive player of the year awards, two Elite 20 trophies, and one coaching staff of the year and Rookie of the year.

“As a conference we want to commend the efforts of the student athletes for representing Cabrini and the Atlantic East with honor and grace in the final year,” said Conference Commissioner Jessica Huntley. “It was a tough environment with smaller resources and rosters than are typical and the students performed and showcased great pride in what it means to be a part of the Cabrini community. We wish the staff and students the best in their next chapters.”

The Cavaliers finished as the only school in the Atlantic East to win men’s or women’s lacrosse championships among the 30 titles in six years. The five lacrosse titles go along with four for men’s swimming and men’s golf. Cabrini has won two titles in field hockey, men’s tennis, The Cavaliers sit second all-time in championship wins just one short of Marymount who leads at 31.

The Medal of Inspiration, an award created to honor individuals that battled through adversity to become stronger versions of themselves, was awarded to individuals who handled their battles with resilience and grace. More on the honor here.
