Immaculata, Marywood, and Cabrini Earn Major Awards as Baseball All Conference Announced

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Baseball All-Conference teams and major award winners on Monday, as Immaculata, Marywood and Cabrini earned major honors. 

Player of the Year honors went to Immaculata’s Josh Crowding. The catcher sits atop the Atlantic East with a batting average of .431 and a slugging percentage of .708. Crowding ranks eight in Division III with 21 doubles so far this season. The senior was a force throughout conference play totaling 20 runs batted in during Atlantic East play, with 53 total runs batted in for the full season. Crowding helped lead Immaculata to back-to-back conference titles.

Jason Hughes of Immaculata repeated as Atlantic East Pitcher of the Year. Hughes was dominant on the mount finishing with an earned run average of 1.32 and an amassing an 9-1 record. The junior totaled 98 strikeouts and just 19 walks throughout the year. During Atlantic East play Hughes was 6-0 with two complete games. The right hander ranks seventh in NCAA DIII action with the 1.32 ERA and ninth with 98 strikeouts. Hughes hopes to continue his impressive season in the NCAA Regional starting this Friday, May 19th.

Marywood’s Christian Michak earned Rookie of the Year honors. Michak finished his first year campaign with a batting average of .333, including nine doubles, two triples and two homeruns on the season. The nine doubles and 64 total bases landed Michak 12th in the league in both categories. The first year had a slugging percentage of .474 for the Pacers. Michak tallied 15 double plays in his first year at Marywood.

Immaculata was awarded Coaching Staff of the Year after earning the top seed to host the 2023 Atlantic East Baseball Playoffs with an 15-3 conference record and an overall record of 29-11. The coaching staff is led by Josh Copskey, assisted by Jeff Paglione, Norm Schoenig and Tim Gunn. The staff guided the Mighty Macs to their second straight Atlantic East Baseball title as they extend their season at the NCAA Tournament.

Lastly, the Atlantic East Elite 20 award winner for baseball, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East's 20 team championships, was awarded to Cabrini’s Shane Chavez-Zottnick. The senior finished the year with a 3.91 GPA as an finance major with a minor in accounting. Chavez-Zottnick helped the Cavaliers finish as the Atlantic East Conference Runner Up.
