McShea, Persico Headline Women's Track & Field Awards

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the 2022 Women's Track & Field Major Award Winners and All-Conference teams on Tuesday as Gwynedd Mercy University, Marywood University and Marymount University earned major awards.

Siobhan McShea of Gwynedd Mercy earned the Track Athlete of the Year accolade after having a huge weekend. The senior earned her first gold medal of the meet and conference meet record in the heptathlon which is comprised of seven track and field events with 2891.00 points
. In her next event, she set a another new conference meet record after winning first place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.65 . McShea took silver medals in the 400 dash (1:04.07) and in Gwynedd's 4x400 relay race as the anchor. Finally, the senior earned two bronze medals in the 200 meter dash and the 100 meter hurdles with times of 29.54 and 17.27 seconds, respectively. In addition to her track events, McShea also earned a bronze medal in the javelin toss and competed in the long jump.

Marywood's Kristen Persico was named the Field Athlete of the Year for the second-straight time after earning a gold, a silver and a bronze in her events. Persico won the javelin throw with a 29.98m toss. She took second in the hammer throw and third in discus throw, respectively. The senior also represented the Pacers in the shot put event.

The Rookie of the Year was awarded to Deziree Conklin of Marymount University after having a sensational conference championship meet debut. Conklin earned three gold medals in the 100 meter hurdles, the long jump (4.99m), and the triple jump (10.21m). The rookie set a new conference record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.18 seconds. Conklin also earned a silver medal in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.77 and competed in the high jump event. 

Marywood University claimed the Coaching Staff of the Year accolade after leading the women's team to its third-straight Atlantic East Conference title. The coaching staff consists of Rob Ahrens, Kevin Borrelli, Dejon Bennett-Monroe, Carl Daubert, Frank Passetti and Lauren Calvey.

Lastly, the Atlantic East Elite 20 award winner for women's track & field, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East's 20 team championships, was awarded to Brianna Roth of Marywood University. Roth, a member of three-time conference champion Marywood, maintains a cumulative 4.0 GPA as an Exercise Science major.
