Richard, Sands Selected as Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. - On Tuesday afternoon, the Atlantic East Conference released the season's first Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors. Emerald Richard of Centenary University earned player of the week while Marymount's Sydney Sands earned speciality player of the week. 

Player of the Week:
Name: Emerald Richard
School: Centenary University
Class: Junior
Position: Middle Blocker
Hometown: Cresco, PA
High School: Pocono Mountain East
Brief Outlook of Week: Richard had 28 kills (2.33 per set), hit .500 with three service aces and eight digs while leading the Cyclones to a 2-1 mark last week. Richard matched her career-high with 17 kills in the five-set thrilling win over King's (N.Y.). She hit .625 in that match and added seven digs, two service aces and a block. Earlier in the day, Richard hit an impressive .583 (7 kills on 12 chances with no errors) against PSU Hazleton. She had four kills in the season opener against Mount Saint Vincent.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Name: Sydney Sands
School: Marymount University
Class: Sophomore
Position: Setter
Hometown: Chandler, AZ
High School: Perry
Brief Outlook of Week: Sands was instrumental in the Saints posting a 3-2 record over their first week of action. She tallied team-highs with 98 assists and 12 service aces. Sands added 39 digs and 20 kills to round out her contribution. The sophomore recorded double-digit assists in all five matches and posted two double-doubles. The highlight came in a 3-2 win over Catholic, where she finished with 39 assists, 12 sigs, and two aces.

Weekly Honor Roll:
Sara Burgos (Marywood / Senior / Setter): Burgos recorded 111 assists to lead the Pacers to a 2-2 start. She averaged 8.54 assists per set for the week. Burgos recorded 39 assists and 11 digs in a four-set victory over SUNY Delhi. She tallied 27 assists and nine digs in a three-set win over Bryn Mawr. For the week, she finished with 35 digs (2.69 per set) and four aces.

Kaitlyn Doyle (Marymount / Junior / Outside Hitter): Doyle powered Marymount's offense in its 3-2 showing last week. The junior posted 40 kills and averaged a team-leading 2.50 kills per set. Doyle was efficient in her efforts as well, with a .217 attack percentage. She added 20 digs and six blocks. Her block total was second-best on the team.
