Marywood's Sorce, Walters take Women's Soccer Weekly Awards

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women’s Soccer weekly award winners on Monday, as Marywood’s Josephine Sorce and Marywood’s Britlyn Higgins won Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors respectively.

Brief Outlook of Week: Sorce propelled Marywood to a pair of Atlantic East victories with five goals and two assists for 12 points. She had a leg in three of the Pacers' five goals against Gwynedd Mercy, finishing with two goals and an assist. Sorce notched a hat trick — plus an assist — in a seven-point performance versus Pratt.

Name: Carly Walters
School: Marywood
Class: Junior
Position: Defender
Hometown: Springfield, Pa. 
High School: Springfield
Brief Outlook of Week: Walters helped the Marywood defense stifle Pratt and Gwynedd Mercy to a combined four shots, three shots on goal and one corner kick. Offensively, she scored a goal in each game. The Springfield, Pa. native had the game-winning goal versus Pratt, heading a Josephine Sorce corner into the net in the third minute of play.  The Walters-led defensive corps broke the Marywood school record for defensive consecutive scoreless minutes at 671:39. Weekly Honor Roll:
Jenna Magrino (Fy., Centenary): Magrino recorded multiple goals scored in a single game against Pratt. Both goals were scored within three minutes of each other, putting Magrino at seven goals for the season. Magrino is currently tied for the fourth most goals in the conference.
 
Daniela Carillo-Torres (So., Marymount): Daniela Carrillo-Torres notched three goals in the Saints' 2-0 week, including two against AEC-foe Centenary on Saturday afternoon, while also playing stout defense to help keep the opposing offense at bay.
 
Anna Poehlmann (Jr., Neumann): Anna Poehlmann scored a goal in a 2-2 tie against Immaculata in the only game of the week for the Knights. The junior put the Neuman up 2-1 in the 69th minute and finished the game with three shots, two on net.
 
Kat Thomsen (Jr., Pratt): Kat Thomsen had one goal and one assist in Pratt's 6-0 victory over Centenary on Wednesday. After securing back-to-back wins, the Cannoneers split the week 1-1. 
 
Leila Lajdel (So., Marymount): Leila Lajdel played a total of 147 minutes in two games. The game against Centenary University ended in a shutout for the Saints with Lajdel playing a crucial part in the defense. In the game against Mary Baldwin Lajdel not only aided in maintaining a strong defense, but also supported the offense to keep the pressure off the Marymount defensive side. Lajdel played a proactive role in the game and gained a goal for the Saints against Mary Baldwin. 
 
Gabby Palladino (Jr., Immaculata): Gabby Palladino scored the game tying goal in the 78th minute in Immaculata’s 2-2 tie against the Neumann on October 23rd that helped Immaculata secure a spot in the Atlantic East Conference playoffs.
