Women's Basketball 2/27/2022 10:00:00 AM 2022 Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams and Major Award Winners Announced LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Women's Basketball All-Conference teams and major award winners on Sunday morning, as Marymount University and Cabrini University grabbed major honors. Marymount earned three major awards, as Symantha Shackelford grabbed Player of the Year, Chandler Eddleton earned Rookie of the Year and the coaching staff was awarded Coaching Staff of the Year. This is Marymount's second time earning a Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year award since the inception of the conference in 2018. Shackelford was the Saints' key player offensively and defensively all season. Averaging 12.4 points a game, an 83.7% free throw percentage, 3.0 assists per game, 1.4 steals per game and 3.8 rebounds per game, the junoir guard helped the Saints finish as the top seed in the conference going into postseason play. Eddleton earned Rookie of the Year after having a stellar debut season. The sophomore ranked in the conference top 10 in four major statistical categories. Eddleton averaged 13.5 points per game, a 71.1% free throw percentage, 1.6 steals per game and 7.0 rebounds per game. The Rookie of the Year helped carry the Saints to the Atlantic East Conference semifinal game. Marymount University was awarded Coaching Staff of the Year after winning all but one regular season conference game with Margaret White leading the team in her very first season with the Saints. White, assisted by Aprile Preller and Craig Courter, guided Marymount into the 2022 Atlantic East Playoffs as the top seed for the third straight year. Cabrini's Katie Rodriguez earned Defensive Player of the Year after racking up 213 rebounds this season (7.9 per game), 59 blocked shots and 23 steals. The sophomore's presence in the paint helped Cabrini make it to the semifinal round of the conference playoffs. Finally, the Atlantic East Elite 20 award winner for women's basketball, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East's 20 team championships, is Erin Kelly from Immaculata University. Kelly, a member of the 2022 conference championship team, maintains a 3.92 cumulative GPA as an Education Major (Pre K, Pre K-8, Special Education).
