HADDONFIELD, N.J. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Men's Tennis All-Conference teams and major awards on Friday. The All-Conference teams are voted on by the league's head coaches.
Receiving back-to-back Player of the Year honors, Eshan Degamwar received the prestigious honor once again after going 4-0 in the No.1 spot throughout conference play. The junior also went 3-0 in AEC doubles, 2-0 at the No. 1 spot and 1-0 at the No. 2 spot. He went 13-2 on the year, playing 14 of the 15 at the No. 1 singles spot, with one match played at the No. 2.
Rebhi Villasmil was awarded Rookie of the Year honors after competing in his first season for the Saints. Villasmil went 4-0 at the No. 2 singles in AEC play while going 1-0 at the No. 1 spot in singles and 2-0 at the No. 2 placing. He won 11 matches at the No. 2 singles across the year, adding one win at the No. 1 singles. On the doubles front, the Woodbridge, Va., native posted two wins at the No. 1 spot, seven wins at the No. 2, and went two-for-two at the No. 3 spot.
Degamwar also took home the Atlantic East Elite Scholar Athlete Award. This honor is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East’s championships. The junior is majoring in Computer Science and boasts an impressive 3.977 GPA. Full criteria can be found here.
Taking home Coaching Staff of the Year honors was Marymount, led by Head Coach David Carroll, and assisted by Scott Farmer, David M. Evinger, and Nikki Simhambhatla. The Saints posted a perfect 4-0 record in conference play, going 12-9 on the year. After being crowned champions at the conference divisional tournament, Marymount lost a hard fought 4-3 AEC/AMCC Men’s Tennis Crossover Championship to Penn State Behrend.
