Middletown, Conn. — Marywood University dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 7 Wesleyan University (CT) on Wednesday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships. The Pacers finished their season with an 11-10 record.
Marywood competed in the third NCAA Tournament in program history.
Wesleyan advances to the Babson Regional. The Cardinals (15-4) will take on Hamilton in the second round.
Bre Marchiano played all 60 minutes in the cage, making a career-high 22 saves.
Meera Patel led the Cardinals with two goals. Kenzie Mauro, Emily Smith, Natalie Shaw, Leila Feldman, Kate Francini each scored once as well.
Mauro and Feldman each recorded an assist with their goal.
The Pacers held down the Cardinals in the first period, keeping it knotted at 0-0.
The Cardinals jumped ahead at the beginning of the second Period when Smith scored the first goal of the game. In the 23rd minute, Mauro doubled the lead with a deflected pass from Feldman into the cage. Patel scored in the 24th minute off a pass from Sydney Cameron.
After the half, Feldman scored to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead.
In the 35th minute, Patel's second goal was converted on penalty corner with an assist from Mauro.
Following a scoreless 18 minutes, Wesleyan's Georgia Adams spotted Francini off a penalty corner who tipped the ball in to extend the lead. Shaw scored the seventh Wesleyan goal in the 57th minute off a corner.
