Marywood's McCann and Kalinich Highlight Men's Track and Field All Conference

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the 2023 Men's Track & Field Major Award Winners and All-Conference teams on Monday afternoon as Marywood and Marymount earned major awards.

Marywood’s Michael McCann earned Track Athlete and Rookie of the Year after an incredible first showing at the Atlantic East Championship. McCann totaled four godl medals and one silver medal for the weekend. The first year started the meet with a conference and championship record in the 3000m steeple event with a time of 10:19.78. He then ended the time with a 10,000m win crossing the finish at 34:24.06. His next gold was in the 5000m at 16:49, while he earned a silver medal in the 1500 at 4:07.28. His relay team took gold in the 4 x 400m relay to close out the met with a final time of 3:38.19.

Will Kalinich of Marywood was named Field Athlete of the Year after earning a gold, a silver, bronze and finishing fourth in his final event. He won the javelin with a best throw of 44.80m. He followed that up with a 32.98m toss in hammer. His bronze medal came in the shot put with a 12.14m top throw. To close out the throwing events he had a toss of 32.85m in the discus for fourth overall.

Marymount University claimed the Coaching Staff of the Year accolade after leading their team to an impressive showing and conference championships. The team is led by Jonathan Morow, assisted by Max McNeil, Sam Snyde, Kornelius Klah and Courtney Smith.

Lastly, the Atlantic East Elite 20 award winner for men's track & field, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site at each of the Atlantic East's 20 team championships, was awarded to Scott Gartley of Marywood University. Gratley member of four-time conference champion Marywood, maintains a cumulative 3.9411 GPA while majoring in history.
