LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Field Hockey All-Conference teams and major awards on Wednesday, as St. Mary's College of Maryland and Marywood each received major honors. The awards are voted on by the conference coaching staff.
St. Mary’s collected two major honors as
Brenna Ziegler and Charlotte Horn were named Player and Defensive Player of the Year respectively.
The reigning Rookie of the Year, Ziegler continued her impressive career at St. Mary’s. In conference play she led the conference with 26 points from nine goals and eight assists, while tallying two game-winning goals. Overall in 18 games she averaged .833 goals per game with 15 and nine assists.
Horn repeats as Defensive Player of the Year after an incredible season with the Seahawks. Horn led a team that allowed just 23 goals throughout the 18 game season. The defender tallied two defensive saves throughout the season while also adding two goals and two assists for ten points this season.
Leah Ewing earned Rookie of the Year honors after a great season in net for Marywood. Ewing led the conference with a goals against average of 1.034 and a save percentage of .800. The Pacer keeper allowed just four goals throughout conference play as she led Marywood to the second seed and Conference Runner Up honors in the tournament.
The Atlantic East Elite 20 Award is given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the final site of the championship and finishing in the top two teams. This year's award winner for field hockey is Marywood’s Corrin Hasty who has a 4.0 in Criminal Justice.
Marywood was awarded Coaching Staff of the Year after recording a 5-1 conference regular season record and a 15-5 record overall and a second seed in the tournament. The Pacers added nine wins from 2022 and improved from a 3-3 conference record in 2022. The coaching staff were led by Julie Trott and assisted by Kaitlyn Bevans.
