Lancaster, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the Sportsmanship Team of the Year award on Monday morning, an award voted on by the athletic directors of the seven league institutions, naming Centenary University's softball team the winner.
The Sportsmanship Team of the Year award is given to a team that positively affected the game environment and exhibited acts and/or behaviors based on values, respect and integrity.
The Cyclone softball team was a very positive team, opponent and representative of Centenary entirely this school year. The team had no ejections and thoughtfully encouraged all members of the squad every practice and game.
The softball team was also very active in the community this year, as they ran the Earth Day cleanup at a local cemetery, took part in the Caravan for Hope--which included making sandwiches and packing meals for those in need--at Trinity Church and assisted with a nearby elementary school's Jump Rope for Margaret fundraiser that collected $15,000 for a local child with special needs.
For their efforts, Centenary softball earned the Atlantic East Sportsmanship Team of the Year accolade.
