Saints Grab Three Major Awards To Headline Women's Basketball All-Conference
LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the 2020 Women's Basketball All-Conference teams on Sunday afternoon, as Marymount University grabbed three of the four major awards.
Headlining the All-Conference teams is the 2020 Player of the Year, sophomore forward
Katie McShea from Marymount. McShea has been strong all over the court in her second season, leading the conference in points (485), rebound (275), and field-goal percentage (52.6 percent). She also ranks eighth in blocks (16) and seventh in assists (62). She has recorded 16 double-doubles this season out of 27 games. McShea has been named Player of the Week six times this year and Defensive Player of the Week once. She was also given national recognition during the season, being named USBWA Division III National Player of the Week.
Senior forward
Gabriella Haddad from Marymount was named Defensive Player of the Year. Like McShea, Haddad finished high in the league in rebounds, sitting fourth with 172. She also ranks ninth in steals with 46 and eighth in blocked shots with 16. She was a key piece to a squad that currently ranks seventh in the country in scoring defense, only allowing 48.8 points per game. Haddad was a back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week in February.
Immaculata University's freshman guard
Jordan Rook was named Rookie of the Year, helping the Mighty Macs secure the fourth seed in the tournament and a home first-round game. At 10.4 points per game, Rook was the third highest-scoring rookie in the league, totaling 259 points for her first season. Of those 259 points, she registered 29 three-pointers, 10th best in the league. She finished sixth in the league in total assists with 71 and 11th in steals with 42.
The Coaching Staff of the Year honor went to Marymount's staff, as they recorded another regular-season record of 11-1, earned the top seed throughout the tournament and hoisted the championship trophy for the second-straight year. Head Coach
Ashlee Rogers and her staff of three have the Saints at a high mark in the 2019-20 season, currenlty sitting with a 23-4 record and the top spot in the Atlantic region. The Saints are ranked seventh in the country in scoring defense (48.8 points allowed per game), ninth in scoring margin (21.3), eighth in three-point field goal defense (23.8 percent), 11th in rebound margin (11.1), and 14th in field-goal percentage (44.5 percent).
