LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the first-ever Sportsmanship Team of the Year award on Wednesday afternoon, an award voted on by the athletic directors of the seven league institutions, naming Marywood University field hockey the inaugural winner.

The Sportsmanship Team of the Year award is given to a team that positively affected the game environment and exhibited acts and/or behaviors based on values, respect and integrity.

The Pacers proved those types of acts in a game during their season when playing a first-year Division III program that could only field eight players. Although winning by a substantial amount, the Pacers used the moment to encourage their competitors to grow the sport and keep looking forward to their potential and future of the program, including playing with eight players as well in the second half.

Marywood spent much of the game teaching their opponents more about the game, while giving each other words of encouragement on each of the plays. After teaching the opposition some stickwork and other parts of the game to help improve their program, the teams hugged one another following the game, exchanged social media, and took a group photo.
