Saints Sweep Major Awards, Women's Volleyball All-Conference Announced
LANCASTER, Pa. - The Atlantic East Conference announced the 2019 Women's Volleyball All-Conference teams on Tuesday afternoon, as Marymount University swept the four major awards led by Player of the Year
Mykael Johnson.
Johnson has had a career season in her junior year, leading the league in several categories. She leads the Atlantic East in total kills (461), total attacks (1,313), points per set (4.8), kills per set (4.15) and attacks per set (11.83). She also ranks 15th in the country in total kills and 16th in points per set. She was named Player of the Week for the conference five times this season, as she was a key piece to an undefeated run through the league this season. Johnson has had 12 double-doubles so far this season in kills and digs, as she currently sits with 461 kills and 298 digs this year, both of which are career highs.
Marymount junior setter
Maggie Viniard, who was named the Atlantic East tournament's Most Valuable Player, was named the Specialty Player of the Year. Viniard has also left career marks in her third season with the Saints, as she leads the league in assists per set (10.00) and total assists (1,120). Her total assists tally is good enough for 23rd in the country as well. A two-time Specialty Player of the Week for the conference, she is less than 250 assists from eclipsing 3,000 assists in her career. She also has recorded 13 double-doubles this season in assists and digs.
The Rookie of the Year honor went to Marymount's
Elissa Munsterman, who has been a big contributor for the Saints in 33 of their 34 matches. She has registered 255.5 points so far this season, including 218 kills, 16 service aces, 106 digs, and 39 blocks. She has had nine double-digit kill performances in her first season, while notching two double-doubles.
The Coaching Staff of the Year was also named to Marymount, as Head Coach
Beth Ann Wilson and her staff bolstered a perfect run through the conference regular season with six three-set victories to earn the top seed in the tournament. It is the second-straight season the Saints have gone perfect at home, notching their 13th home win this season in the conference championship. For the second-straight season, Marymount has earned a bid into the NCAA tournament, the second in program history.
The All-Conference teams have five of the seven schools represented, led by four each for Marymount and Cabrini University. Neumann University earned three spots and Wesley College two, while Marywood University landed one on first team.
